SCCYC and MDR Lido Fleet 2 were represented at the Lido 14 Nationals by Steve Vincent & Gigi Barbes and Paul & Ian Button.
Nearly 60 boats competed at Alamitos Bay Yacht Club August 9th 10th and 11th. Friday the 9th was qualifying , with the Championship following on the weekend. We had Goldilocks breeze… Too much on Friday, just right on Saturday and too little Sunday.
Steve and Gigi made Gold Fleet, top 25! They finished in 23rd, with a best score of 8th.
The Buttons raced in the Silver Fleet, finishing 7th out of 34 boats. Their highlight was rounding the first weather mark of the first race in the lead, ending up with a fourth in that race.
Gold was won handily by ABYC’s own multiple National Champs, Mark Ryan and Sarah Schaupeter. Kathy Dryden from Mission Bay Yacht Club took the Silver fleet, sailing with her son Liam. ABYC ran a great regatta with PRO legend Bruce Gollison. The host club provided wonderful hospitality and a great time was had by all. Sounds like next year’s CCR may be in the San Diego area. Hopefully we can get more of the fleet out on the water in 2025!
